Acta Diurna records a meeting onto the machine it runs on. There is no server behind it: no account, no upload, no copy anyone else can read. This page says exactly what that means, and lists every case where anything at all leaves your computer.
- What the extension reaches
- The extension runs only on meet.google.com. It reads the audio of the Google Meet tab you are already in, the display names Meet shows for the people speaking, and — if you turn it on — your microphone. It does not read other tabs, your browsing history, your bookmarks, or any page that is not a Meet call.
- Where that goes
- To one address on your own computer, and nowhere else: ws://localhost:9099 for the audio, and http://localhost:9099 for the side panel — two status requests, and the text you type into its Ask the assistant box, which is handed to the acta application for the coding agent you run beside it. Those are the only endpoints the extension has. No remote server exists to send anything to.
- What the extension keeps in your browser
- Three settings — whether capture starts automatically, which microphone to use, and the panel language — and a rolling log of the last 200 lines describing what the extension did. That log names the meeting id, the address of the tab and the microphone's name, because those are what make a failed recording explainable. It is handed to acta over the local socket on the next connection and then cleared. It is never sent anywhere else.
- What the application keeps on your machine
- Each recording becomes a folder under ~/acta (%USERPROFILE%\acta on Windows) holding the audio, the transcript and diagnostics. Transcription runs locally, on your own processor, with a model downloaded once. Nothing in that folder is synchronised, uploaded or shared. You delete a recording with acta rm, and it is gone.
- Everything that ever leaves your machine
- There are three, all of them either started by you or switchable off, and none of them carries a meeting: acta setup downloads the transcription model from huggingface.co, once. acta checks for a newer version by reading one file from raw.githubusercontent.com, which you can turn off with acta config. And acta feedback opens your own mail client with a message you wrote — it shows you the exact text first, and a meeting's contents are not in it.
- No account, no activation
- A licence is a small signed file. It is checked on your machine, by arithmetic, against a key compiled into the program. Nothing is contacted when you install it or when you record, so we cannot see who is using it, how often, or for what.
- Recording other people
- Whether you may record a call is a matter of law and courtesy where you are, and Acta Diurna does not decide it for you. It does not announce itself in the meeting, so telling the other participants is yours to do.
